VILLAGE QUILTERS: Quilting camaraderie, love and comfort for 30 years 🧵❤️
Thirty years ago, the Village Quilters held their first quilt show. Today, this wonderful organization has more than 300 members from Tellico Village, in Loudon, and surrounding communities in this part of East TN, all sharing a love and appreciation for the art of quilting.
I recently attended their “Quilts by the Lake” show at The Venue in Lenoir City, where about 150 beautiful quilts were on display, competing in different categories. I took many pictures, but I have to say—there is nothing like seeing these incredible pieces in person. Some of them absolutely blew me away!
The Village Quilters are about much more than amazing and talented ladies making beautiful quilts. Founded in 1996 by Carole Spahn with just 17 charter members, the guild is dedicated to education, friendship, creativity, and giving back to the community.
Their Community Service Committee, established in 2004, has donated more than 3,000 quilts to people in need through local charities, nursing homes, children's services, domestic violence organizations, and other community groups. Quilts are also sometimes sent to areas affected by natural disasters.
The guild also has an active Quilts of Valor group, which creates quilts to honor and comfort veterans and service members. Since 2009, they have distributed more than 250 Quilts of Valor throughout East Tennessee and beyond.
I love that this group combines creativity with compassion. Their quilts are works of art that bring warmth, comfort, and a very personal expression of caring to people who need it.
Their Next Quilt Show
The Village Quilters' 8th Quilt Show & Marketplace Boutique will be held October 11–12 at the Tellico Village Chota Recreation Center. More than 300 quilts, all created by guild members, will be on display, along with more than 1,000 items for sale in the Boutique.
Proceeds from the event help support their community outreach efforts, allowing the Village Quilters to continue sharing a little comfort, warmth, and love with those who need it most.
